Biography

Professor Shaliza Ibrahim has been appointed as the Associate Vice Chancellor (Research & Innovation) of University of Malaya since 2015 to lead the Institute of Research Management and Services in promoting and managing research and innovation activities. Prior to that, she was the Head of Research Grant Management Unit from year 2009 to 2013. She was also in-charge of the university’s research policies and strategies planning.

Prof Shaliza graduated with Summa Cum Laude in Chemical Engineering from Texas A&M University before continuing her Master in Pennsylvania State University. She obtained her Doctor of Philosophy from University of Birmingham in 1992. She is an expert in the area of mixing and hydrodynamics in multiphase reactors involving solids, liquids and gas, focusing on optimizing impeller-to-tank geometrics and operating conditions for solids suspension in liquids. She has published more than 100 publications over the years.

Currently, Prof. Shaliza is the project director of Malaysian Research Management and Governance (MRMG), a project funded by the Newton- Ungku Omar Fund for Professional Development and Engagement. The project has been awarded to the IHL Excellence Planning Division (BPKI), Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia with University of Malaya as the collaborative partner.  The first phase of the project has identified four main areas to look into: professional research managers, full economic costing of research, research impact and open science. In the second  phase, this project will focus on more in depth considerations including related issues and implications, policies, and awareness and training, before full implementation can take place.
