Dr. Sarah Foxen
Sarah Foxen first came face to face with ‘real world’ research impact during a PhD internship at the Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology (POST), UK Parliament. The experience sparked a passion in her to help connect research and researchers to Parliament. Through blogging, tweeting and talking, she did this as best she could whilst finishing her PhD. Several years down the line, Sarah’s passion is now her full-time job! Sarah is a knowledge exchange manager in the UK Parliament’s Knowledge Exchange Unit; an office based in POST, which supports and enables the exchange of information and expertise between UK Parliament and the research community. Sarah’s role includes training and supporting academics and those working in Higher Education to engage with Parliament, and working with parliamentary colleagues to increase uptake of research. Sarah leads UK Parliament’s work with Research England and its input into the development of the 2021 Research Excellence Framework and Knowledge Exchange Framework. Sarah is also involved in POST’s international work programme, and leads a knowledge exchange project around legislative science advice, working with partners in the UK, Spain and Mexico. Sarah has a PhD in sociolinguistics from the University of Exeter (UK) and a background in education. She speaks French and Spanish, enjoys using art and knitting to communicate research, and is a keen Everton FC fan.
