Michelle Phillips
Speaker Bio:
Michelle is the Open Research Product Manager at BMJ. With over 15 years of STM publishing experience, she has a passion for real-world impact and has been very fortunate to have collaborated with many inspiring researchers on bridging the gap between research, policy and, ultimately, real-world outcomes. Before BMJ, she worked in a range of publishers and societies in both Australia and the UK. Her first role in the UK was with Taylor & Francis, where she worked in partnership with key think tanks and launched policy-focused products and journals such as the Journal of Cyber Policy with Chatham House. Joining BMJ was a wonderful opportunity to explore further the impact of research on health policy and medical practice. A user-centred research approach and deep engagement with the health and medical community has enabled her to understand further the challenge that funders, researchers and institutions face when measuring the impact of their health and medical research beyond traditional bibliometric figures. This research fed directly into the development of BMJ Impact Analytics, which was launched in collaboration with Overton this year. Originally from Melbourne, she makes sure to return to Australia often to visit friends and family, and to enjoy the beaches and great coffee.
