Biography

Paula is the Senior Advisor, Knowledge Mobilization with Children’s Healthcare Canada and Knowledge Broker with Solutions for Kids in Pain. Prior to joining SKIP and Children’s Healthcare Canada in September 2019, Paula was Director of Operations with an international knowledge mobilization network focused on improving access to, quality of, and outcomes associated with youth mental health and substance use services. Paula also served as the Associate Director, Knowledge Mobilization, with the Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction (CCSA) where she led a team of knowledge brokers, developed and implemented an organizational KMb framework, and evaluated the impact of CCSA’s efforts to put evidence to use for meaningful change. Paula also draws on over 30 years of experience in child and adolescent health, public health, health promotion, and population health and more than a decade as a knowledge mobilization specialist. Paula pioneered the knowledge broker role in public health through her work with Health Evidence at McMaster University. As a Nurse Clinician, with Sunny Hill Health Centre for Children, she coordinated a child development program for infants and children who were prenatally exposed to alcohol and other drugs and their families with an outreach clinic in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. As Director, Early Child Development, with the Canadian Institute of Child Health, Paula led health promotion and prevention initiatives. Paula began her career as a neonatal nurse in her hometown of St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. Paula is a proud but displaced Newfoundlander, mom, and animal lover with two kitties who sometimes appear to like her
